FM Caused by "A Hyper-Aroused Nervous System"?

For those of you, who like myself, read the article in "Science Daily" the other day about Fibromyalgia and are insanely ticked off...you're not alone.

This article, (which you can visit from the very top of my website homepage if you haven't read it,) begins with the headline, "Drug approved. Is Disease Real?" and continues to quote the NYT, "as far as the medical profession is concerned, the jury is still out" as to whether our disease is all in our minds or not! Quoting the now infamous NYT article as if it were taken from the Bible or something.

Fortunately, the article also features the opinions of Barbara Keddy, Ph.D who has suffered from FM for 40 years. She has written a new book, entitled: "Women and Fibromyalgia: Living with an Invisible Dis-ease" and has her own theories as to what causes FM. She also maintains a very helpful blog about FM, where she discusses this theory as well as other facts about how FM effects women. Her latest entry includes discussion about the confusion that surrounds diagnosing the cause of FM. I highly recommend that you visit her blog if you or someone you love has FM/CFS.

I was so blessed by her testimony in the article and the way she stood up for sufferers like me that I left her a comment on her blog, congratulating her on her good work. In return, she visited my website, even joined my support forum and added a link to The Ultimate Fibromyalgia Resource Center on her blog! I felt as if I should have been rolling out the red carpet or something! What a blessing! This woman is capable of achieving great things for FM and I hope that God blesses her with great support and success in her efforts.

I also plan to read her book!

So anyway, I just wanted to give you all a heads up on a new possible cause for FM and the dedicated woman who is researching this theory.

A Hyper-Aroused Nervous System?

hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm.

Think about it.

I will do my best to keep you updated on this story and will let you know what I find out. Meanwhile; please check the website for updates.

Thanks, everyone!

IBS: The FM Symptom Nobody Wants to Talk About!

Fibromyalgia is a "symptomatic disease" and effects each individual differently. One FM symptom that practically EVERY FM sufferer has is IBS, (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). We all tend to be private in nature about how our bodies work, (or don't work in this case), so nobody really wants to discuss IBS flares openly. It's just personal. Still, the lack of discussion does not prevent the IBS symptoms or "flares" from occuring or from bringing our lives to a screeching halt because of the discomfort they bring. We adhere to strict diets, exercise, take plenty of fiber, drink plenty of water and still IBS attacks! When this happens there is not much we can do except suffer through the flares, lay in bed miserable, and wait them out.

The truth is, you can feel them coming. You adjust your diet. You add more fiber. Eat more raw fruits and veggies. You drink water til your eyeballs are floating...and still they come. I have been suffering an IBS flare for the past three days. I have been bloated, constipated, running a fever and felt so bad that I just wanted to die. I felt it coming on the past few weeks...I was becoming irregular over several weeks, then eventually just stopped going at all. I felt toxic. I felt like I could literally explode at any moment. Saying that "I felt uncomfortable" is a gross understatement! I was miserable! Finally after a week of "not going at all", popping colon detox, fiber, gas relief, stool softeners and vitamin supplements, I relented and took a strong laxative. The result was higher fever, cramping, nausea and a migraine that made me want to go out in the highway and just walk out in front of a transfer truck! No relief came though and I was sicker than I was before I took the laxative. Because I knew I needed to eat something, I drank some warm chicken broth...big mistake. So, I added hungry and unable to eat to my list of things that were making me miserable!

On top of it all, I received a call from my family in NC, saying that my Father had suffered a stroke and was in the hospital! I was too sick to get off the couch, much less hop a plane to NC and actually be of any use to the family who needed me in this moment of crisis! There are no words to describe how this made me feel. There just aren't. I am the oldest daughter and being so, have always been the one they counted on to handle things when there was a crisis in the family. Now, my Daddy was in the hospital and I was so sick I couldn't help in any way at all, was 900 miles away and felt useless. On top of that, I was so sick, I wanted to just die!

***Three days later, Praise God, my daddy is home and is recovering from the stroke the doctors are telling him he was lucky not to have died from. At least there is that great news!***

The best I can do is try to make it through until my next neurologists appointment and hopefully get some helpful advice from him, although to my knowledge I am already doing all that I can to make the best of an IBS Flare situation. If I don't actually go step out in front of that truck I will consider it a success.

Not talking about IBS doesn't make it go away and with FM it is just another symptom that we are bound to suffer, another way that FM steals our lives away from us...making us unreliable to our families and friends and destroying our self worth.

If you suffer IBS due to FM/CFS my prayers are with you and I hope that you always have the strength and support needed when the flares arise. God knows, that seems to be the only way we get through them...as the medical community continues to dance around our disease like it's a case of the flu and deserves no more attention for a cure than a common cold.

Get Rid of Your Greedy Disability Attorney Today!

Just a brief note to let everyone know that the link to the Disability Digest has changed and has been updated! If you are disabled because of FM/CFS and haven't taken advantage of this FREE Resource, then please do so today! The Social Security System is complicated and overwhelming by design to prevent you from receiving the benefits you deserve. Don't let this prevent you from getting approved!

I have people on my site forum who have been diagnosed with FM, have filed for disability and are receiving false information from greedy attorneys who are only after one thing and believe me, it's NOT TO ENSURE YOU WIN YOUR CASE! IT IS TO GET RICH OFF OF IT!

You do not have to be unable to work or unemployeed for 12 months to apply for or be approved for SSDI!

Go back and read that last statement again, I'll even make it RED. I did that because many are being told that by attorneys because they don't want to take on a case that doesn't guarantee them a HUGE payout on your back pay once you are approved. You see, by law, they can only charge 12% of what you get when you are approved. If you wait 12 months to apply, then fight for , let's say a couple years to get approved, subtracting the 5 month, mandatory waiting period that SSA makes you ineligible for benefits...the attorney gets a huge chunk of your money!

Don't do it! You do not even need an attorney unless you are denied and have to go before a judge! Don't just give your money away thinking you need an attorney to win your case! That's a load of crap!

I won my disability case, without an attorney in only 4 months! Are you hearing me? In only 4 months! I was able to do this using the FREE information I received from this free guide.

Get this FREE Fibromyalgia Disability Guide Today!

Don't be mislead by greedy attorneys or the SSA. Win your case and keep your benefits by following this guide.

I did it! You can too!

Get this FREE Fibromyalgia Disability Guide Today!

This is not sales hype. It won't cost you a penny. EVER. I tell you about it because I am sick and tired of watching the federal government and greedy lawyers take advantage of sick people! If I can get approved, the first time, and in only 4 months without an attorney, without waiting a year to apply, then what are you waiting for? Don't you want to win your case too? Or would you rather pay some greedy attorney 25% of your benefits for absolutely no reason? If you don't believe me, that's ok. Go ahead and do it your way. In three years you will still be in the appeals proccess. Good luck with that...

Warm, Sunny Days Are Just the Best!

Don't ya just love those warm, sunny days???! It makes living with Fibromyalgia so much easier. Cold seems to irritate it more, sinks into your bones and sits there scraping, all the while making your muscles tense up and throb. I don't miss winter when it's gone at all, no way!

I felt pretty good today so I did a little around the house. I hope I don't pay for it tomorrow. When you have FM you kind of have to use it when you have it and try not to over do it when you don't. (Or get depressed that you don't have the energy to wash the dishes, etc.)

Yesterday, I had to go to a local charity that has been helping me to "requalify" for my benefits. I need help paying my rent this month as I don't have my part of it. Although I have been approved for SSDI, I have to wait the mandatory 5 month waiting period before I begin to receive benefits. That is so crappy. How do they expect people to live with no income? Some day I am going to help change all of that. Someday!

I am going to talk to my neurologist about the script he gave me for Provigil, the medicine for fatigue. My insurance co-pay for a 30 day supply is $87.00! (Sure, I will just go pick that off the tree in the back yard!) Of course, I didn't get it filled; I didn't have the money. I am not really sure what to do now to help the fatigue. I may try the Ribose, but it's not cheap either and the insurance definitely won't pay for that!

Well, that's abt it for today. Hope that everyone is having a pain-free day! Take care and thanks for reading.

Fibromyalgia Feedback

In looking over my website analysis tools, I am able to see what people are searching for in the search engines when they arrive at the FM website. Keywords are a wonderful tool to use in writing content because you know that you are providing what people are really looking for. With FM/CFS this can be complicated because of the very nature of these diseases...they are symptomatic. People often search for information to give them relief of a particular symptom rather than just search for fibromyalgia in general. Providing content for every symptom that an FM sufferer may have is practically an unachieveable goal. so today I am kicking myself because I had a visitor who was searching for "aluminum poisoning relief", something that I just happen to know a great deal about because I had it, yet haven't put anything about it on the website because it is very rare. I missed out on helping this person because they were brought to the FM site because Google bot listed it because I mentioned in one sentence that I had been diagnosed with Al. Poisoning. I chose not to ellaborate further on the topic and that person came to my FM site searching for help and I offered none. (Have you seen the KitKat commercial -"Wanna get away?") Man, I could walk under a dime right now. I'll have to do better.

In an effort to better serve my site visitors I am going to add a questionaire to the site asking EXACTLY what my visitors are looking for help with. That way, I can provide them with the help they need and hopefully avoid the situation from happening again. So, if you are a regular visitor to the site, please check for this addition soon and let me know what you need help with.

There are tons of FM related sites on the internet. What makes my site different and why should people visit my site or refer it to others when there are so many sites, most maintained by doctors who are specialists in their field? I'll tell you. Because I am just like them. Because I want to help and because I care. Sure, I have monetized the site as much as is possible, but the truth is, I haven't made a dime off of it and it cost me money to keep it up. The only reason it is there is because I care. Hopefully, that will make a difference along the way and my visitors will see that. When they come to The Ultimate Fibromyalgia Resource Center, noone is trying to sell them a "miracle cure" or a treatment protocol. They can browse the site, hopefully gaining some information that will help them feel just a little better, do a little shopping if they want to, whether it's a Fibromyalgia Awareness Bracelet or a NASCAR T-shirt. They can watch videos about FM, read articles, check out news stories, all kinds of information is available to them and someone just like them made it all available FREE. THAT is why visitors should come to my site and I will try, (even though I get discouraged alot!) to continue to make that available to my visitors. If some along the way choose to support the site -HEY, THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL AND HELP ME OUT ALOT! But, it's not what the site is all about. It's about preventing anyone else from having to go through what I did with Fibromyalgia! Not one more person should have to lose their life to this disease! It's abhorable that I or anyone else for that matter has already and there are thousands of us who suffer every day!

The readers of this blog, the visitors to my site, my friends and my family have watched me suffer through the past seven months. If you have read this blog, especially the archives from Yahoo 360*, then you know how hard it has been for me. I have cried my heart out on the pages of this blog now for months. Fibromyalgia is a terrible disease! When you have FM combined with CFS it is even worse. Aprox. 4-11% of the US population is afflicted with these diseases, yet 46% of Americans, when polled, did not even know what Fibromyalgia was when asked. It is no surprise that there is no cure and no effective treatment! I talk to people everyday who cannot work, cannot get approved for disability, are being evicted from their homes and have lost everything, yet, our society ignores their cries for help. Apathetic voters refuse to demand attention from their elected officials for SSDI Reform. I wonder how many will become "disposable" before anyone pays attention. How many of the "homeless people" you see littering your town's streets do you think might be victims of Fibromyalgia, CFS or other autoimmune related illnesses? When the average family is only two paychecks away from homelessness and bankruptcy, what do you think would happen to your family if you suddenly couldn't work, the SSA wrapped you up in a three year fight to get assistance and NOONE answered your call for help? Maybe more people should think about that.

I suppose I should get off of my soapbox and do some of that work I talked about on the website but I really wanted to touch base on the need for Awareness and research funding because so many are suffering and noone is helping. Something really needs to be done.

If you or anyone you know is touched by Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, please refer them to my website, this blog, the squidoo lens, or the site forum for help and support. If I cannot help them, I will make every effort to help them get whatever it is that they need.

Thanks for reading.
